Ox Roast and Beacon Lighting

Windsor’s Platinum Jubilee weekend started on Thursday 2nd June 2022 with an Ox Roast held in Bachelors Acre, a Windsor tradition in celebration of our Monarchs’ Jubilees dating back to the Golden Jubilee of George III in 1809, with the Mayor and Governor of Windsor Castle making the first ceremonial slices.

As dusk fell over Windsor thousands of local people gathered (estimated 50,000!) on the Long Walk to watch the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon, at Cambridge Gate with the Castle making a stunning backdrop. The beacon was lit by Sir James Perowne, The Governor of Windsor Castle  and Councillor Christine Bateson, The Mayor of the Royal Borough, and was followed by a wonderful firework display.

We would like to say a big thank you to local residents who took and shared photographs with us to help us capture these memorable occasions, and below is a small selection.
