Platinum Jubilee Flotilla – a Rowing Procession on the Thames – journeying through Windsor from 11am to 12pm on Saturday 4th June with a salute at 11.30am.
The flotilla, led by Gloriana, The Queen’s Row Barge, built in 2012 and led the Diamond Jubilee Flotilla in London, will consist of up to 30 rowing craft of different types. The procession will be rowing down the Thames from Boveney Lock, travelling downstream through Windsor on their journey to Staines. Representatives from rowing clubs in the local area will be taking part, along with rowers from the Windsor Boys School. Come along and see some racing boats, 10 touring quads and up to a dozen beautiful wooden skiffs, as well as a Bedford Whaler, an outrigger kayak and a dragon boat.
The procession will be headed by the gorgeous Gloriana, by kind permission of Her Majesty The Queen, and Lord Sterling. Windsor is privileged to be able to welcome this wonderful craft over the special Jubilee weekend. On board will be the Lord Sterling, the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, James Puxley, the new Mayor of our Royal Borough, Cllr Christine Bateson, the Chairman of British Rowing, Mark Davies, along with other invited guests. The rowing procession will salute (raise oars where possible), before Gloriana carefully proceeds under the bridge and on towards Romney Lock.
Come along to see the procession, which you can see as it journeys past the Leisure Centre and on through the town. The Brocas will give a fantastic view and a chance to keep pace with the procession and grab some wonderful pictures. The view from the bridge itself will also be very special.
