Gloriana & The Platinum Jubilee Flotilla

On the morning of Saturday 4th June the Platinum Jubilee Flotilla – a Rowing Procession on the Thames – journeyed through Windsor. The flotilla which was led by the Queen’s Row Barge, Gloriana – by kind permission of Her Majesty The Queen and Lord Sterling – consisted of up to 30 different types of rowing craft including some racing boats, touring quads, some beautiful wooden skiffs, a Bedford Whaler, an outrigger kayak and a dragon boat. The procession rowed down the Thames from Boveney Lock, travelling downstream through Windsor on their journey to Staines, with representatives from rowing clubs in the local area taking part, along with rowers from the Windsor Boys School.

Windsor was privileged to be able to welcome the wonderful Gloriana which had on board Lord Sterling, the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire James Puxley, the new Mayor of our Royal Borough Cllr Christine Bateson, the Chairman of British Rowing Mark Davies, along with other invited guests. The rowing procession saluted by raising their oars, before Gloriana carefully proceeded under the bridge and on towards Romney Lock. The procession was watched and cheered on by the hundreds of people who gathered at the Brocas, Eton bridge and along the riverbanks to enjoy the exciting spectacle.

Congratulations and thanks to the organisers British Recreational Rowing Committee with the Gloriana Services Ltd. If you would like any more information please contact John Turnbull [email protected] or Matthew Gordon [email protected]
